Evans Kapkea, the nominee for deputy governor, will be vetted by the Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Tuesday. This will start the process of filling the vacancy created by Eng. John Barorot’s departure in August.
After passing screening, Kapkea, 34, who serves Tembelio Ward as a member of the County Assembly, will take over as Uasin Gishu County’s third deputy governor.
On August 21, 2024, Eng. John Barorot, the deputy governor for two years, tendered his resignation. He departed from his position to assume a new position as CEO of a global ICT company.
The MCAs from Uasin Gishu, led by Kiplombe ward representative Gilbert Lagat, have pledged to support Kapkea, stating that they have collaborated with him and believe he possesses the necessary skills to succeed Governor Jonathan Bii.
In addition to serving on the Uasin Gishu County Assembly’s Health Committee, Finance and Appropriations Committee, Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, and Investment Committees, Kapkea also chaired these committees and delegated legislation.
