A 48-person Tahmeed bus headed for Malindi caught fire and quickly burned to the ground after all of the passengers were evacuated on Sunday morning.
The event, according to police and the bus management, took place a few kilometers from Voi town on the Nairobi-Mombasa route.
The police have confirmed that every passenger was successfully evacuated prior to the bus catching fire, even though the cause of the incident is still being investigated.
All 48 passengers were safely evacuated thanks to the efforts of the bus management. The bus was traveling from Kitale to Malindi when the tragedy happened on Sunday at around four in the morning. The fire started close to the Voi area.
“Fortunately, all 48 passengers onboard were evacuated safely and promptly. We are grateful for the swift action that ensured everyone’s safety. Our teams assisted these passengers with completing their journey on alternative buses. We understand this event may have caused significant inconvenience and distress, and we sincerely apologize for any impact it has had on our passengers.,” said part of a statement from the company.
Both the management and the police stated that they are currently looking into the cause of the incident.
In the past year, there have been two instances of this kind in the same vicinity.
In January 2023, a different business bus which was carrying forty-two passengers to Mombasa caught fire in the same location.
