The giant telecom operator Safaricom has recently announced that M-Pesa users will no longer be able to transfer money to unregistered users.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Safaricom stated that the new directive will take effect the following Monday, February 5, 2024.
However, the firm pointed out that registered users will still be able to take advantage of all services, including sending and receiving money from different mobile money providers.
Thus, the telecom company encouraged its unregistered mobile money service users to proceed and do so as soon as possible.
“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-PESA to unregistered mobile money customers. As a registered mobile money customer, you will be able to send and receive money across different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash. We encourage customers who are not registered for mobile money services to register by visiting a Safaricom Shop or M-PESA Agent with their Identity Document,” read the statement.
