A police officer stationed in Kasarani was detained by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Friday for allegedly soliciting a Ksh.30,000 bribe.
Paul Kamau Mbugua, the suspect, was taken into custody at a liquor store on Lumumba Drive after he demanded a bribe to be released from two brothers he had illegally held and imprisoned at Kasarani Police Station.
The EACC claims that Mbugua failed to enter the brothers’ purported offenses in the station’s occurrence book.
The crying suspect was apprehended by EACC agents and taken to Kilimani Police Station despite his resistance to capture and uproar at the booze store in question.
“The suspect was escorted to Kilimani Police Station where he is currently detained pending further processing today at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station. Detectives confiscated the suspect’s Taurus Revolver Pistol S/No. Q130360 and ammunition, which they later handed over to the OCS EACC Police Station,” a source at the anti-graft agency stated.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the arrest and said the Commission had received a complaint concerning the officer on Friday. Since then, the Commission has conducted investigations and taken the suspect into custody.
